So I read this and was like, huh, this is pretty true.
Gen II: Delibird is introduced as a version exclusive Pokémon unique to Silver version, and is the parallel to Mantine, which is exclusive to Gold. Mantine’s BST is 465, a full 135 points above Delibird’s BST of 330. In the current Generation, the only other pokemon that shares Delibird’s 330 BST that isn’t a NFE (not fully-evolved)Pokémon is Luvdisc. Making Delibird exclusive to Silver was a slap in the face to kids like me who bought Silver version because they liked Lugia from Pokémon: The Movie 2000.
To cement its status as the lesser of the version-exclusive Pokémon, Delibird can only learn 1 move by level-up: Present. But don’t worry, it can still learn TMs, and Gold/Silver introduced a new game mechanic: egg moves. Out of the 5 egg moves Delibird was able to be taught, 1 of them was Splash. They could’ve given Delibird any egg move they wanted to improve its usefulness, but they went with the proverbial useless move, Splash. To add insult to injury, Splash couldn’t even be directly bred onto Delibird; you had to breed it onto a Horsea or a Poliwag first.
Gen III: Abilities are introduced and Delibird is given the ability Vital Spirit and Hustle. Hustle is odd, considering Delibird’s SpAtk is higher than its Atk, and the only non-normal-type physical attacks Delibird can learn are Focus Punch, Aerial Ace, Fly, and Mud-Slap.
Delibird isn’t availible in the 3rd Gen yet, until FireRed version where Game Freak, yet again, decided to make Delibird a version-exclusive Pokémon. This is an excerpt from Bulbapedia: “Delibird can be seen as a parallel to Sneasel. Both of them are Ice-type Generation II Pokémon. Delibird is exclusive to FireRed, while Sneasel is exclusive to LeafGreen, with both Pokémon found in the same location in their respective versions.” Sneasel or Delibird? Hmm… which is better?
Gen IV: Nothing much to say except they kept Delibird as a version-exclusive pokemon for SoulSilver.
Gen V: Ah, the Dream World! Which new ability will Delibird gain? Thick Fat? Snow Warning? Unburden? All would make sense. But no, they gave Delibird Insomnia, preventing sleep, which is already covered by Vital Spirit, one of his normal abilities. Wtf, Game Freak?
tl;dr: Even now in the 5th Gen, Delibird is still being used by Game Freak to troll us.
chain breeding for Splash??? the fuck.

(one thing, Skarmory is Mantine’s parallel, not Delibird. Delibird parallels Gligar.)
